ive had a linksys wrt54g router for the last year, it went totally bust today due to software failure or something... dont really care what the problem was as i need a new one anyway.

the network strength on it was really bad. The wireless pc downstairs could hardly access it and kept loosing the network every 5 minutes or so so im looking for a new router with good signal strength. The price id pay is between £40 and £80 but id prefere if i could pay as little as possible. What router would you recommend would be best for me keeping in mind that i need good distance coverage.

extra info
1 computer wired to router
1 computer downstairs(with bad signal), 1 computer upstairs a few meters away which works perfect with the wireless, and im thinking of connecting my xbox 360 which is downstairs up to the wireless network

EDIT - its a ntl modem so doesnt have to be asdl

At what power output did you have your WRT running? My v3 came with 28 mW as the stock setting and it had a rough time penetrating my ancient lead-paint prison of a house. I jacked it up to 70 mW (251 is as high as you can set it) and I haven't had a problem since.

yeh i was gonna try doing that but you needed the latest firmware to do that so my brother tried upgrading the firmware, but then for some reason it crashed, hasnt been workin since, on my wired pc you cant access the router control panel, and its ip is mucked up

the wireless pc has connectivity to the router but no internet connectivity, and when you access the router settings on it you keep gettin Page can not be found errors, dont have a clue whats wrong with it, i tried resetting firmware, installing new firmware and everything but nothing is working for it

that was what it was like this afternoon, then tonight the power led started flashing constantly.... so its really mucked up now

got it 14 months back but i think linksys has a 3 year guarantee with it, i got it off a****** site
