I posted this question in the Network & Internet section but got no replies so I'll try in here....

I'm currently using a wired Netgear router (854 I think) for my DSL Internet access used by my PC. Now I've got a Nintendo DS and an XBox 360, and soon I'll have a Wii ( :D  ) , so I'm looking to get a new wireless DSL router that will be compatible with all of my devices. Can anyone please reccomend one which has good range and signal stregth?

Also, for my PC I'll need a wireless card. Are the wirless USB sticks anygood or should I stick to a PCI card??

Thanks

I got myslef a Dlink wireless gaming router and I'm extremely happy with it. I can be downloaded stuff while both me and my son are playing online with no lag at all. It recognises when you are gaming and dedicates a certain percentage of the wifi bandwidth just for games ;)

Just wondering, why is it you need a wireless card for your PC? Most wireless routers still have 4 ethernet sockets to connect wired devices. Save yourself £20 or so, unless of course you want to go wire free :)

I can recommend Netgear products. I use the RangeMax Access Point connected to a Netgear router (the AP was free, otherwise I would have bought a RangeMax router). There are plenty around, but as has been mentioned in other threads, the DS can be the biggest pain to connect.

My router is downstairs and the PC & Xbox are upstairs, and at the moment I have to trail a cable between router and PC so I need to go wireless to get rid of that :).

Will have a look at the Netgear stuff then as I've never had a problem with my current router.

Wireless can be a bit pants going from downstairs to upstairs, I think you'd be better with one of those powerline adapters to run a switch into your upstairs or at least run a new wifi point via the power lines.

The new MIMO routers shouldn't have problems covering a whole house I wouldn't have thought.

Aye the RangeMax are MIMO. I get full signal almost all around the house; the AP is upstairs in my bedroom. The one place I get a lower signal is in the bathroom :p

My netgear one wasn't that great. The one with the 7 Blue LEDs on the top. Although I know they have some newer faster models now. But still I guess I've just had it with wireless, poor range, disconnects, having to go back to the router to reset things, Bah can't beat the simplicity and ease of a cable :)

do you need a special router for wireless gaming?, ive got a cheapo £20 cable router from a local pc shop. The xbox will be in a room not that far away from the router.

Also, what kind of adapter will i need to get net on the xbox for xbl?

cheers

If the Xbox is in the same room as the router you may as well use a cable (same sort of cable used to connect a PC to the router) to connect the router to the back of the Xbox (no adaptor required).

im using a Netgear DG834G router, my pc connects to it via a wire, then i use the wifi connection for the 2 DSLites in the house, i can also use them in the back garden/garage with the router in the front upstairs office.

I am looking for a Wii and that will be using it to.

I'm changing over my home to powerline adaptors, although expensive they have benefits over wireless eg consistently high bandwidth and QoS. Therefore its the only way you can conveniently stream HD, I have a feeling even wireless n will have trouble with this.
