Wireless Slow and Wired Fast ??? Help Please

Hello

I have got Sky 8Mb Broadband running on the router sky provide, sagem i think its called.

My desktop connected with cable runs fast on the internet, speed tests show 7Mb ! so all is good.

However my wireless laptop is slow on the internet, streaming videos etc. Speed tests report 3Mb windows says signal strenght is excellent.

Whats going off here ?

What settings should i be looking at to increase the speed on wireless ?

What channel are you on, especially compared to networks around you? You might be getting an excellent signal but tons of interference (and therefore packet loss).

What type of wireless card/laptop do you have, I have a laptop with b/11mbs which runs out of steam and can't max out my BB but also have a laptop with 54mbs which has no problems with download speeds.

For both, if I want to copy over large files I'll still plug a cable in as regardless the transfer speeds are much better when wired.
