Hiya Folks

I am on Virgin 4Meg and am using a Scientific Atlanta 2100 modem I have borrowed a netgear Wpn824 router(the one with the blue LED's on top) off a mate and am having a problem

I have installed it and it seems to be working fine still as quick as without the router however intermittantly itll just stop working all lights are flashing on the router but the data send receive lights on the modem stop

the pc is still trying to communicate that light still flashes the router still flashes away but no data.

So i reboot the router and all is ok for a while could be 10mins-3 hours

any ideas

If the lights on the modem stops working, it sounds like you've got bigger issues than just the wireless breaking.

As tolien said (and assuming Im reading correctly) it sounds like its probably a problem on you're virgin line if the lights on the modem go out. Could be a faulty modem as well.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Its the data send recieve lights on the modem that are not functioning Intermittanly
the net cable goes through the modem before the router so if the router is stopping it wont get to the modem.
It worked fine all last night then this PM nothing

Yes what he means is if you use the router but connect to it via ethernet instead of wireless, does the problem still occur? That'll narrow it down to whether the router in general is being screwy or just something on the wireless side.

Ah gotcha
Yep using it as both main pc which im using and wireless
However its been ok all pm and this evening and i'm begining to think it may be the incoming socket causing trouble going to get 2 new leads tomorrow and have a go with that
will keep you posted.

Second issue
laptop cant connect to it with wpa2 enabled hangs at aquiring network address
using correct password/key
disable it and its fine

If you call virgin out and its your router prepair to have £30 added to your next bill

Its sounds like a router problem , my mum n dad had the same problem theres is a netgear wgt624v3 , try disabling encryption and see if it works ok , if it does do a firmware update , reset the router with the reset button on the back , then setup encryprion again. I used a different type of encryption after firmware update and it is working ok now.
