HI Chaps (& ladies),

Firstly I appreciate any help.

My PC and hub is upstairs. I am looking for a wireless way to get information downstairs to this freeview HD box I am intending to buy:

http://www.3view.com/Home.aspx that does NOT have any form of WIFI or wireless :(

The thing is, upstairs is definitely on a different electical 'ring-main' from downstairs, so apparently I have read the 'plug in the wall' sockets advertised on the site

https://www.3view.com/BuyNow.aspx

will be a bit rubbish :( .

This box has RJ45 connection, as well as plenty of USB slots, but no wi-fi. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I should buy so I don't need a blimin' ugly RJ45 hanging all round the house?

Suggestions most appreciated ..

Britters.

EDIT - The budget is high (this is for my main TV viewing experience) so no real need to think about only budget options. I would be keen at the capability of streaming HD video if possible ??

what about access point linked to this 3view box?

problem with wireless is speed, even good 'n' speed may not be able stream HD media well, i mite be wrong, i never use wireless.

what i did was 30m CAT6 with conduit, job done

edit: i am a little confused. 3view box is actually a PVR device? yes? cant you use aerial in living room?

no that's for xbox lol look at my edit

It's a freeview box and I will be plugging it into the ariel for all that cool stuff.

BUT it also does clever thingies like 'stream from youtube' and 'stream video from the PC'. And its for THAT cool stuff I need some wireless way of getting this badboy onto the internet!!

:)

what's the hub wireless speed? G or N?

Good point! er .. dunno! Its a Bebox (24mb) adsl connection. Thompson thing. Here's a picture:

I think one of these may do the trick????

Just a complete guess though.

Presuming the hub is an 'N' - would my link do the job do you reckon?

I really REALLY REALLY appreciate your help by the way.

i fully understand now, i had an experimental ages ago with XP MCE 2005 via wireless, i tried stream media from storage box via G wireless, none of them were HD, shutter/buffering every 20secs or so.

i suspects if you use N wireless it would be big improvement but streaming HD media.....not sure to be honest, i'd leave that to someone have those experiences.

what you needs is 'wireless access point', but quite few wireless router that can behave just like access point.

Cheers OK I'll have a look.

Would just drill a hole in the ceiling and dangle an RJ45 through and down the wall to the box, but wife would have an absolute mental fit! (This is not an estimation, she has clearly precisely informed me of the level of fit from her I should expect if the drill comes out!!)

FYI, that isn't a Freeview HD box. It doesn't have Freeview HD certification and doesn't have the required MHEG implementation to do things like BBCi.
