Wireless Tomfoolery

Hi all ,

My next door neighbour has been bragging to me for ages about his wireless home network and I always try to scare him by inventing stories of hackers and the like.

Anyway , Ive just got a laptop with built in wireless conectivity at the weekend , I plugged it in , switched it on and low and behold I see Martins network in front of me , not even encrypted!

Now I know its not right and of dubious legality but is there any kind of elaborate prank I can play on him without getting too technical?

You could connect to the network and see what shared folders/drives he has. Prehaps add to it, or re-arrange it for him.
Or even set up a shared area on your computer with info in it about him, with file names like 'victem 29'. And then let him 'find' the share in time.

Without being too nasty...

If you know his make of router/access point or can work it out, and you've had a look in the online support area for it to get it's default admin logon and password. With that you could change his SSID to "I FIDDLE WITH GOATS" or something of your own choice

join the network. hopefully it will give you an IP address. if so go into windows command prompt and type 'ipconfig /all' then copy + paste the info into here.
one of the reading will be the defualt gateway address of his router. usually 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.1.
once you have this, you can attempt to access the admin panel for his router. as a guess try both the suggested addresses in your internet explorer address bar, if its the correct address it will bring up a dialogue box asking for user/pass, and say what the router is called. from this i can give you the more than likely user/pass. or certain routers let you on without a user/pass.

once you have access to this, you can do a range of things that will have him scratching his head for weeks such as changing his network name 'SSID' to I've Been Owned' or anything similar which may relate to a provate joke you have between yourselves?

if i had the time i would change the dns forwarding on the router to point to your own dns server and make all his requests go to goatse
