not sure if i dreamt this..

is there a freeware tool that will have a scan using your wireless card, then graphically show you where signals are coming from?

anyone? :)

Pretty sure thats a pipe dream, Im no expert but i would have thought to get a tragectory you'd need more than one aerial.

The only way I could think of doing it would be to get a directional antenna or make a cantenna and move it around until the signal is strongest.

don't know where i thought i saw this, have a feeling it may have been bluetooth or wireless, not sure

but i see what you mean about needing 2

you would probably need two or more to "triangulate" the position [as sayeed would tell you!] but possibly there is some software that can tell you a radial distance and give sort of a graphical output of approx. how far away it may be?

I'm pretty sure that there is a Cisco tool to do this, but if I remember correctly you have to have cisco AP's and wireless cards that are compatible as well.

There is site survey software that works in conjunction with GPS that eventually allows you to plot a map of the area. If you look, there is probably similar open source software available.

And here is the white paper on the Cisco triangulation setup.

It can be done, its not amazingly accurate though. I have software on my phone that aims to give a general direction and distance but meh, good luck finding an AP with that :p

No idea on windows based software so cannot recommend any.
