I have 2 x 580exii and 1 x 550ex and 2 x 5Dii, so my initial plan was to get the PW Flex system. I wan full ETTL functions and this was the obvious choice.

However, there are reports of comaptibility issues with the 580exii (not the 550ex or 430exii, so I could get another flash...) so the alternative is radio poppers with their Px system, but I would need a canon master IR unit or use a flash on camera for that to work so it adds costs, which I could or might as well get a 430exii.

Another but, is that I know people who has PW Flex with their 580exii with no problems, may be it's just the American Market where they use a different frequency than here in Europe.

Or, what else is out there?

though jake might have popped in to reply to this one.....I cant really help cos I've only got the yongnuo rf-602s and I'm guessing you're looking for something a little more professional :)

I've got a 580EXII and use TT1/5's - I've personally not had any issues at all with them.

PW do sell covers for the 580 if you are nervous.

If you dont mind the cheaper quality, it might be worth looking into the Pixel King and Pixel Knight triggers. Both of which supports TTL wirelessly.

hi Raymond, ive been useing some Calumet:CF0090 that i bought at the focus on imaging show. They are a reasonable quality, low cost trigger that works similar to the yongu but with ettl pass through on the trigger. This allows you to mount a flash on top of the trigger on the the camera with full control and then remote other flashes off camera. The off camera flashes are not ettl so you have to be a bit creative with positioning or manualy adjust on flash if it allows. So far ive had no miss fires and have been pleased with them

I don't mind but I like something with a reputable quality, after all, I am trying to pay less tax :p

The one thing i need it to have is ETTL to the remote flashes so i bought the PW last night...ouch!

I have seen issues with the 580exii and pocket wizards in friends gear, though their line on it was you just need to know when you see the issues and it's not hard to avoid. Given my understanding is the issues are a little esoteric and centre on quite niche applications I'd be happy using them together.
