Wireless Woe - keep losing connection

Hi folks,

Bought some wireless kit in the summer and have been reasonably happy with it so far (despite the odd period of problems).

However, over the past few days I keep losing the connection between my computer and the router with alarming regularity; we're talking at least once every ten minutes - it makes playing online games impossible, and even browsing the t'interweb is frustrating.

I have NETGEAR DG834G Router and NETGEAR WG311G Wireless card, and am running Windows XP.

Recently, I've noticed another (passworded) network appears when I scan for them - could this be causing a problem? (Maybe confusing my card?)

Thanks for any help

Change it to something like 1.
They mean what they are - channel numbers. Each channel has a frequency, different networks on the same channel are going to interfere.

Different channels affect the signal; cant remember which way round they are but they can give better signal strength or reduce it.

Signal strength seems fine; but still having the problem with the wireless connection dropping.

Currently on green, it'll then drop to red (making me lose connection) before changing back to green (although the wireless connection still won't work at this stage); and then keep doing the same - staying green for 10 seconds, 2 on red... repeat to fade.

If I repair the network using the XP wizard (or reboot the router) then the connection will return for a short while, but will then drop again shortly afterwards.

Frustrating!

(I've had to reconnect three times to make this post!!)

Its faulty. Had a Netgear router and had the exact same problem. Try updating the firmware. If that doesn't solve your problem, then get it replaced.

Upgraded the firmware on the router - worked fine for.. oooh... half an hour?

And then cut out again!

Replacement it is then

Could it be anything wrong with my wireless card?

Okay, I've noticed that if I'm actively using the connection (say to download or transfer files, etc) it seems to stay active - but if I stop to read a page or two, it will drop within a few minutes.

The only timeout setting I know of is set to '0' - so it shouldn't drop at all.

Anybody have any suggestions about this?

Just to say that I get exactly the same problem at home using my fairly new Sky Wireless router and Wireless netgear adapter (provided by sky).

However when I take my laptop to work and link to the BT Router with the same network adapter it works fine.

Damn Annoying
