Hello, im quite new to this wireless thing so please bare with me, i recently moved from a wired network and moved house and we now have a wireless network.

This is the equipment we have:

Linksys WAG354G 4-Port Wireless-G Broadband Modem Router
3 x Belkin F5D7000UK 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter (NW-007-BE)

Now rite from the word go we havnt had much look with this setup. It seems very unreliable. The computer which is situated immediatly next to the router seems to work fine acesing the internet signal strength at 100%. Now my computer which is about 5-10 metres away from the router (although in another room) has around 40% signal, i wouldnt mind this dip in signal strenth but not only is the strength weaker then expected every 5-10 minutes the connection will just fail, sometimes its more often every minute or so then windows reinitialise's the connection, i play a lot of games and download big files so i can not deal with this being like it is.

I use my Nintendo DS with the router occasionally and whilst in the same room as the router the signal strength is fine.. when u go out of the room or more then 5-10 metres away the strength takes a dive to around 10% (or 1 bar on a DS ;)) It was my understanding that wireless was capable of 50 metres or more, even from basic equipment.

Wondered if anybody can diagnose my problem or point me in the right direction because this is realllly annoying =)

thankyou in advance.

Just at work atm im going to buy a Linksys network adapter at lunch time to match the Linksys router, i dont think this is the problem because arn't they all crossbrand compatible?

Im gonna try it anyway because i cant think of anything else apart from a new router which is the next thing to try if that fails. =)

any suggestions would be helpful :D

tried a linksys network adapter... no difference

am i correct in thinking this router should be performing better then this? im going mad trying to diagnose the problem.
just any help at all is fine =( please im desperate hehe

i just bought the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G SpeedBooster Broadband Router/4-Port Switch

along with the Linksys pcmcia speedbooster laptop, and i seem to get signal all over my house, the router is directly below the laptop and i get around 80%+, when the laptops on the same floor but in different room it gets less than 80% but not as low as what you're getting.

No idea whether the speedbooster(supposed 35% boost) works like it should or it could just be down to your house walls!

danyulland, poor wireless network strength can also come from interference from other devices around it, to try and avoid this you should login to your router and see if you can change the channel that it is using (1-12 i think), even if its on auto, assign a channel anyway and see if it improves.

thanx for the help people... it seems by swopping out the network adapter (from a belkin to a belkin USB device) the signal is much more acceptable and doesnt disconnect every 5 seconds. =) no idea why those belkin adapters were so dodgy yet the USB one works a charm? hmmm anyway i dont care im happy.
