Yooooooo all,

My girlfriends laptop was playing up and being slow so i figured id install windows xp onto it to see if it ran any quicker, due to vista making the poorly specced laptop run slowly... Now i've installed windows and all of the drivers, the internet works when using a cable, but the on board wireless doesnt seem to want to work. Theres a button on the laptop which enables the wireless and when i press it the laptop recognises it but the windows wireless program? doesnt seem to pick it up :S I've tried installing the drivers but to no avail. Any ideas???????

The laptops a medion sim2090.

Cheeeeeeeeeeeeers,

Jack

Sounds like it's using some other software to managed it. Did you download and install all the drivers off the site? If so it probably came with something like "intel Proset wireless" which manages the connection isntead of windows.

When you try opening the in built Windows wireless connectivity software what does it actually say within this window?

If you have software already managing the connection you will get an error such as 'Windows is not being used to configure your wireless network' or similar.

If you get something like that, right click your wireless network connection icon and select properties > Wireless Networks Tab > Ensure there is a tick next to 'Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings' and restart your PC.

Next time it boots, try again.

k, round 20042323 at fixing the wireless... In device manager under network adapters theres one and its a Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) Also, i've installed all of the drivers on the laptop but the WLAN one just seemed like it wasn't actually doing anything although I can't really confirm/deny that.

Any ideas?

That's the wired network adapter, so you're going to need to make sure it's properly enabled and working. Are there any any unknown devices, or is there a BIOS option for the wireless?
