Hi all.

I have a wireless router in my house, i prefer to wired connection for a more consistent connection. however my family use wireless and somehow their wireless will continue to work, whilst my cable connected pc internet doesn't work.

To me that is crazy!

How can i fix this, and set it so the wired connection is prioritized.

Hope you can help, i understand you must have lots of messages like this, but im hoping you can get back to me! :P

My first thought is it may be a driver problem on your PC.

Does it work sometimes or not at all? Any patterns?

Tried a different cable?

Thanks for replies all!! :)

What OS you using? and under connections does it say the LAN one is connected?
im using XP.
it does say connected, but when my internet stops working when others use wireless im not sure what it says, im guessing it says disconnected - next time it happens i will be sure to look and report back.

No patterns i can see other than when wireless users are online also it disconnects.

It works all the time after i reset the modem and router, but then will work for some time and then fail if anyone uses wireless.

Will try a different cable! thanks.

Its so temperamental :(

I had a similar problem with a Netgear DGN2000, where wireless was perfect, but wired would only work at about 1bit/sec, so pinging web sites worked, but loading pages wouldn't.
Basically took it back for replacement, and the new one works perfectly.

I had exactly the same problem as above a few months ago and with the same router as well. The replacement worked perfectly.

I never did find out what the problem was, though.

Thanks so much all, very helpful!

Right. Interesting stuff.
Bizarrely i never used to have this problem though. Maybe i need a new router, any recommendations? there will be a few laptops connected wirelessly and one computer connected directly.

Also is there anyway to set limits on wireless connections? to split the bandwidth evenly.

Thanks again :)

Have to recommend the WRT54GL + Tomato firmware. Am using it here, QoS via MAC address means I can limit any computer/device to whatever speed :D Means that no matter what anyone else is doing, I always get a good connection :)
