Wireless

Ok chaps need your advice, my brother wants to buy a wireless router but my computer will be the main PC, so im hoping i dont need a wireless receiver thingy and still can get away with a ethernet cable from router to pc, but i know my brother will need to get a usb wirless reciever pen or somethink like that, and i dont know a thing when it comes to wireless routers so i need your help my computer will be the main one, as i play games online a lot and also downlaod a lot but need advice on what he needs to get, so does any1 recommend a v-good router but thats easy to setup and what ever else we need to run his PC off my internet, which wont effect me gaming etc ?

Hi

Is you broadband via ADSL or is it cable ?

How are you connecting your machine at the moment to the internet ?

What OS is your brother machine running ?

Im on telewest well (virgin media) which is cable, i connect through a (SB4200 surfboard cable modem) and as for what OS my brother has its XP.

Like i said i know ZERO about wireless routers or anythink like that, what we want is a good wireless router that will not effect my daily use and one that i can passord so only me and my brother can use it, plus one were i can still use a ethernet cable as my system will be the main, and then whatever my brother will need to connect to the wireless router, plus were i can set a net speed and one for my brother, as i dont want him taking all my bandwith up, if that makes sence, so like i said im totaly in you guys and gals hands to put me right, cheers and hope to hear from you soon.

Hi

The Linksys router seem to be very popular as some of them can run different firmware that allows you to have a much larger range of control over the settings in the router.

I have not used the Linksys kit so will have to let other people point you in the right direction as to which model to get.
