Just connected up my wireleess router for the first time in a few years and want to know if i am missing something

I can connect to the net or the config page of the router by cable but when i try wireless i got no connection it put in the 26 characters key what on my router page in the network key for my comp but i not got a signal i am not sure if i done it right i have rebooted the router but no luck.
any help would be gratful as i only had wireless set up once a few years ago and not sure if i done it right,also the network card been laying about for ages so i not even sure if it works ok.
 
You don't need the key to see the router, you just won't be able to connect to the network without it.

If you're not sure if you've done it right, start off with no encryption.

I had it set up a few years ago and the same network is still there so i put the 26 character key in and still not got any connection to the web i am just wondering have i missed something that all.
