wireless

Wireless uses Ethernet too. If you mean a cable, it depends on what type of wireless you're comparing it to and how fast the cabled connection is.
Loss of speed or disconnections would depend on the quality of the cable and the what's at each end.

So try it? If you're going to be as vague as possible about what you mean it's going to be impossible to say what will change.

If you are using 100Mbit then I doubt you will beat it even with wireless N for most uses.

Wireless N set-ups will give you the best distance + speed that you will get over wireless so just get router/AP + network card and away you go.

Depends on what stick you get. Internal cards are better due to having better aerials and less heat being trapped inside an enclosure as they get warm.

Some USB sticks such as some from linksys have high gain aerials so can handle distances well but for the cost you'd be better off with an internal card.
