Wireshark - target ip?

Using wireshark can you input an IP and use that to monitor traffic on that network? (I'm talking an IP in another part of the country).

packet sniffers can only "sniff" the traffic that goes past them on the same network.

so monitoring traffic on a different subnet that its not privy to - NO
 
yeah, i thought so, i just couldn't get my head around what they were proposing! They are convinced they can plugin an ip and information gather (and were very animated about it).
 
nah, if the traffic is coming from the foreign network to yours then you can sniff that but not whats actually on their lan. not even the NSA can do that, although Jack Bauer & CTU can lol
