I bought a remote control light switch today :o
I have taken off the original switch and there are 2 cables going into it, L1 and common, they are both red in colour.
on the manual of the remote controlled switch it says that you need to plug the live supply into one and the other into the other,
which is the live switch?>

Get a neon screwdriver - then you can very easily and safely tell what is live and what isn't. If you arn't happy with this then get a mate round who is.

I am inclined to agree with hyper_piper45 in that if it doesn't work swap them round. Make sure you turn the lighting circuit off before doing any work on it....

I cant really see how it should make a differance what way round it goes. Its a switch after all, didnt think they where polarised?

I took a risk and it worked well.
Now i dont need to get up to turn my light off, all for 12.00

in this case it does matter , to power the unit it needs the live connected correctly because it gets its neutral connection through the lamps filament

if its the wrong way rouund it cannot see the circuit
