Since i converted my dashboard to the mk3 style the, backlight doesnt work for the temperature in the clocks, digital clock isnt backlit (when lights are on) and the buttons all have a different type of light, some light up normally, some when pressed etc.
Ive left it till now because i knew it would be a super ballache of a job to fix!
Everything else is fine.
Pulled the dash off today to have a look for a duff wire somewhere.
Now i have this plug which im unsure where it plugs into, looks like the cig lighter one but there is already one there, it was in the centre console area.
Also have two small guage black wires which if you follow these two wires (the ones pictured on the plug above) back off the loom. They are as if they would wire to switches, my guess is they are redundent unless you had aircon or front fogs originally so are not needed and can remain taped up?
Thats a possibility, cant remember what the mk2 glovebox light is like, but the mk3 dash has two seperate plugs and is different.
Even if it was the light for the clock, wouldnt solve the problem with the backlight not working?
Had a quick check, the rear fog light switch, when pressed will light up to show its pressed, but otherwise doesnt backlight. Have tested bulbs with known working ones.
Rear heater switch both lights work.
Front fog switch works (but retro fitted so seperate circuit).
In the actual clockset. All backlights work apart from the one for the temperature. Have tried another set of clocks (both known working) and several other bulbs.
All i have left to play with is these two black wires which are cut and come off that plug pictured, and the plug itself!
Ive had a good look around and cant find where that plug is from, my thought was cig lighter, but it isnt there, the other is the old shape dashboard glovebox, but cant remember if that is lit or not and not sure if it would reach anyway.
Have checked the fuses.
Ideas, anything ive overlooked?
