Wiring-up case fans and cutting bits off!

Hi

I've just received a new NZXT Lexa Blackline PC case as a gift and I'm very chuffed with it!

I'm currently building my first PC and so far, so good. Everything is installed and running well.

BUT...

I want to tidy-up the birds nest of cables inside!

SO...

Can I chop what I believe are the Molex connectors off the fan wires?

The case fans have 2 plugs coming off them. 1 connects to my mobo and powers the fan fine. The other one (which I think is a molex) is redundant and appears to be merged with the mobo plug.

I could save on a stack of space if I could just lop these off with wire cutters, but will this stop the fan working or have any other repercussions?

Any help is massively appreciated as always.

Shouldn't cause any issues at all. Usually these are only to give you the option of using Molex connection.

Just be certain that they get their power from the 3 pin, then whack 'em off!

If it looks like this then you should be fine.

If I've understood your post correctly then at the moment you have them just plugged into the motherboard and the molex connectors hanging loose. If it works ok like this then there is no reason for you not to cut them off. Just make sure you do a neat job so you dont get any shorts later.

The way I'd be tempted to do it is to remove the pins from the 3-pin motherboard plug and disconect the wires where they are joined. But that could be very fiddley and there's a risk of you doing damage to the plug. Basically I'm a perfectionist!

PK!

Thanks guys.

The diagram is spot on misterPK, which is reassuring.

This is gonna really help me tame the cables in my case, as even with rubber bands and cable ties I was struggling to restrain those blasted connectors!

Cheers!
