Atm running amd 1090t @ 3.7 8gb ddr3 grey and 7970 . I ran some side by side performance tests with a mate that runs a 2700k and 560ti and he was pretty much lvl pegging withn the 7970 so im guessing the 1090 is holding me back .

Dont get me wrong the 1090 is running everything i need and the 7970 is showing 95% load in most games but feel there is more to come .

Was planning on getting a 3570k and asus P8Z77-V LX and k2 cooler and using the ram i have (have a h50 on the 1090)

Psu is only a 550w but seems to cope fine atm.. might look at changing that next month .

Anyone have any issues with the above and look like a sensible upgrade .

I upgraded from an x4 955 @ 4.2ghz to a i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz and using the same 6950 graphics card I have noticed good improvements in most games. Minimum fps has increased a lot which makes games feel a lot smoother.

Hi Persil,

I was in a similar boat, was running a stock 1090t + 5850 and decided to jack the whole system in for a i7 2700k + 7970 upgrade, all l can say is what a diffrerence.

The 1090t + 5850 system + monitor has been retired to my dad who will be using it a lot for photo editing.

The only AMD in the house now is my wifes HP DM1-3101ea and the 7970 :D

Have been an AMD fan a long time, however the boost l got from the i7 just left the 1090t standing imo.

So the components you have chosen will do are great, with the z77 and 3570k you get the added advantage of pci-e 3.0 etc.

Just beef up the PSU to a min of 650, to be safe l would head for 750 Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 750W V2.

Apart from that looks good.

Regards.

Best start reading up on the new IB fella :) it's not everything to everyone however it is doing what intel pitched to the world.

One reason l am staying with my i7 2700k for the moment, should see me good for quite some time.

The new IB should not be discounted just for the supposed lack of OC'ing.

Give it time.

Regards.
