Wish I could do Upgrades like this....

So my brother has been sitting with his PC for around 3 years now and his trusty 7950gx2 and it has finally given up the ghost. So he gave me a limit of £80 to spend on a new card and I chose this.....

HIS ATI Radeon HD 4850 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Now I know how big an upgrade this will be for him so he is going to love it really. I just wish I was able to sit with current hardware for 3 years and enjoy the thrill of upgrading to the extreme.

Shame the upgrade bug still hits me all too often these days

gx2 was a very good card... Im not sure he will see a "massive" increase.......

Would really need a 295 to be blown away IMO...

Tom's Hardware - Benchmark 3DMark06 v1.1.0 3DMark Scorep.s it says 3D Mark but goes to a list of all they done at the time.

Look at a game like Crysis which my brother cant run at any decent detail level at all to get some sort of performance, this is only the 4850 512 vs the GX2 however this was taken in 2008 so the 4850 performance will have seen a nice increase since then through driver releases.

You have to remember he is being forced to lower details in games just to get decent playable frame rates as well, playing certain games on high is a much better experience.
