Hey Guys,

I'm completely going up the wall here. I've been trying for the last hour to get the Witcher 2 to run but to no avail.

I have purchased the GOG version and downloaded the game, installed and then registered. It shows as being connected but when I click the launcher disapears and then re appears.

I have no idea why it won't run, I have a brand new build of Windows 7 installed from a back up yesterday. It has all the latest windows updates applied, I have the latest ati 11.5 drivers plus the crossfire profiles. I have tried running the game on lowest settings, highest settings, crossfire enabled / disable. Still the same problem. Can anyone please help me with this ?

Could there be something missing from my new windows install the games needs ? I have dx9c installed with the game, does it need .net or something ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kev

Fixed it ! I have to run the game with fullscreen disabled, then ALT + ENTER to make it fullscreen. I think it doesn't like my resolution of 2048 x 1152. Cant' belive how long that's taken to fix. This game better be good !

Great, now I can play it with the task bar at the bottom, won't go back into fullscreen. Getting v annoyed with this :(

Success !!!! Finally, the problem is to do with my monitor resolution. Fixed it by actully setting the monitor to 1080p in windows and then set the game to load in 2048 x 1152. This should not of been relased like this. Oh well 5 hrs of my day wasted, at least it's working now then. Hope this helps anyone else having the same problem using a higher than 1080p res.

Working fine for me at 1200p 16x10.

1080p is only for monitor newbies :D

how does it look? :)

The best that DX9 possibly can get. I can notice some things that would have been better in DX10 / 11, like the blurring, lighting and hair effects, but its still very impressive.

It's pretty god dammed impressive, runs not too shabby either. I'm using Radeon Pro with the Dirt2 profile to get at least some use of crossfire. Hope AMD hurry up and release CAP for this. Runs with everything on ultra - uber settings reasonably well.

I've been trying to get this game working for 2 hours now.

It's not related to drivers etc as they are all up to date, checked the official website on the FAQ issues and it doesn't fall under any of those categories.

Basically, I install the game using steam, verify integrity just to make sure.. all is fine, so I run the launcher.. leave settings as default, go to run the game (by clicking play game or whatever is says on the launcher), and the decal of the launcher lion/animalthingy appears but nothing happens. Notification icon also appears after going to play the game in the lower right but just sits there and nothing happens even after leaving it for like 10 mins to launch.

Tried all the stupid things I can think of such as reinstalling, running as administrator, trying to start it in a window in case it is refresh or resolution related. NOTHING.

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated as I've searched everywhere and no one seems to have the same issue or a fix.

same here, i bought the game yesterday and i lost something like 5-6 hours after work trying to get this stupid game running..
always the same thing: start game on launcher, the wolf head appears for 30secs, then it goes back to the launcher, no error messages at all
i have a Dell 2711 (native res 2560x1440), anyway i will try lowering the desktop resolution like you suggested, thanks. This game better be REALLY good

I'm getting weird glitches when in game. Everything is covered in a mist of sorts, and I can only make out Geralt's eyes and gloves in the first conversation. Updated drivers from 10.11 to 11.5 but still the same issue.

ok lowered desktop resolution to 1920x1200, then it starts in full screen at 2560x1440

the game looks really nice on my U2711 + 2x 6970 CrossfireX :D

Tick the box in CCC AA to let application manage AA, should help if ive understood what ur asking.

yeah tried that, still doesn't work either. Most people are saying that it reverts back to the launcher, but mine stays on the wolf head decal thing, until I end the launcher.exe process via the task manager, otherwise it just stays stuck like that

If you're still having difficulties, try disabling your antivirus software (or better adding the witcher 2 folder to the exceptions) and then validating your install in steam.

I just saw this... I had to launch the launcher with admin privileges to install the troll trouble dlc, after doing so I tried to launch the game and had the exact problem you are describing. So I closed it via task manager and ran it normally from steam and it launch fine.
Im in an admin account btw on win 7.

Either it was to do with launching it outside steam or something to do with privileges .
