What are you buying your movies on mostly?

For example, event horizon is 3 pounds on DVD, and 9.99 on blu ray :p

Sherlock holmes 8.99 vs 15.99.

I've got to admit... though the DVD pricing is tempting, it'll drive me nuts to buy a DVD now, therefore I've got to cough up for the blu ray. :(

only DVDs i buy are of things that i doubt will see a blu release for a while if ever. like old TV series (Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Buffy, Angel)

Blu prices always come down within a few weeks. I got loads of mine on Amazon for like £8

Blu-ray here.

I only tend to buy greats though, that I know I'll watch numerous times, such as;

300, Watchmen, Saving Private Ryan and Batman.

DVD, I'd like to go blu-ray, we've got a few blue rays but when you can get films for 2-3 squid second hand I peronally don't care unless the film is in dire need of HD and it's not too expensive.

I bought Inglorious ******** last month which cost my £6, the blu ray was £15.99 in the same shop. was dissapointed but couldn't justify the cost.

Blu-Ray.

Don't buy DVD's any more, don't see the point. I'm very slowly replacing my DVD collection as well.

I have stuck mainly with Blu-Ray for the time being. Reason being I only have 1 Blu-Ray player but multiple devices around the house which have DVD players so I see no reason to switch at the moment apart from for really good films which I have gone for the Blu-Ray version.

Still on DVD. Don't even own a Blu-Ray player. Can't justify the cost, and thats likely to be the case for some time to come.

You know you can get them for less than £60 now right?

That said I'm in money saving mode so my PS3 will keep getting used until next year.

Blu-Rays for me, some DVDs too for stuff that is either unlikely to get a Blu-Ray release or isn't worth the upgrade.

DVDs were £12-£17 quid for a long, long time for newer releases before blu ray was around. I actually think the price of blu rays for what you get (on the most part, some films worse) is brilliant. I don't see the point in buying new DVDs now, the only ones I've bought were dirt cheap average movies that I wasn't sure if I'd watch more than once. I've bought some quality blu rays and enjoyed them all many times already. Start Trek, The Dark Knight, Matrix Trilogy etc are all amazingly good compared to the DVD versions. You need a decent TV and sound setup to make the most of it though. If you're watching on a 22" in your kitchen it's not worth the effort.

I hate the "half state" I'm in though. For example - I own BSG on DBD up to season 3. If I buy the blu ray versions of the final "seasons" then it'll be basically 60. I may as well get the entire collection for 109. BUT then I've got 3 seasons of DVD's and the movie (the feature length pilot) to twiddle my thumbs with. Selling them is pointless, even if I get 10 each it'll feel like a slap in the face.

I have the Bond movies mixed over VHS, DVD and Blu-ray, no big deal except I bought the ones I had on VHS again on DVD as our VHS player broke. I just buy new movies that I know I'll watch a lot on the new format.

With BSG, why not just have a mix? You can still enjoy the show on DVD but it sounds like you don't enjoy it enough to fork out for the Blu rays of the seasons you already have. You may as well buy the newer ones on blu ray if you think it's worth it though. Eventually you'll have all the new/best stuff on blu ray and DVD will die out slowly like it is already.

Sure, but that's still £60 I can't justify when it could be spent on something else, and when I don't even have room in the cupboard for another player, where the 360 acts as the DVD player. Then there's the extra cost of the discs, and the uncertainty about whether disc based film content even has that strong a future or whether Itunes or similar will overtake it.

DVDs look good enough, and there isn't the massive leap in convenience that came with the switch from VHS to DVD, so there's not nearly the same motive to make the switch.

I only buy Blu-rays now but I wait until they drop to a respectable price before buying. Would love to get Saving Private Ryan but I'm not forking out nearly £15 when Toy Story & Toy Story 2 only cost £6.99 each a few months ago.

I do, I just hate having a bunch of DVD's that I'll no longer use! :p

Oh right, well I still watch my DVDs, I invested in an upscaling DVD player from Toshiba and it improved the IQ a massive amount, I'm seriously impressed with it. New releases on DVD upscaled with it look closer to Blu ray then ever, so I don't have an issue watching things on DVD now, though given the choice, blu ray obviously wins out so I tend to buy new stuff in the new format.

I think it's been a long time coming really, I was talking about blu ray back in 2004 with my boss and it took a really long time to come to market in some force, I'm just glad it's here, and although it doesn't have the same leap in convenience as VHS->DVD had, the picture and sound are a huge leap still. I think it'll last in one form or another, perhaps we'll see doubled sided discs (are current ones dual layer?) etc to boost capacity but keep a decent compatibility. I don't think anyone is ready for another format change unless it's radical like digital distribution or solid state drives etc.
