"Set to be released via Amazon prime on April 30th, this is a re-imagining of Tom Clancy's 1993 best seller starring Michael B Jordan as John Kelly, a SEAL involved in an international conspiracy after a home invasion goes wrong"
I'm a huge Clancy fan so, irrespective of how well this movie turns out it'll never be Canon to me, just like all the other movies aren't Canon, even though I like the earlier ones. From the trailer this looks to be just another "Generic Action Movie" although hope I'm wrong as rate Jordan quite highly when he brings his A game (The Wire & Black Panther for example).
The original story is a best seller for a reason so, while I understand maybe updating the story's time period (Vietnam becomes Iraq/Afghan etc), the actual story itself didn't need to change anything else as everything else is still relevant to today yet, as per current Hollywood Lore, the makers have decided to buy an IP, strip away everything that made it popular just to keep the Title and Character name and attach it to pre-written "generic action movie number 376" hoping that fans of the IP will flock to see it.
This style of "bait and switch" approach to a book IP has failed with almost every film that I can think of, with only WWZ being the exception as it did very well despite being a generic Zombie movie rather than being based on the IP that they paid for.
I'm only glad that some IP's like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter etc were bought to life by companies who actually cared and wrote the stories based on the IP rather than being a generic cash-grab.
