WLAN PCI Card Installation Problems

Just bought a WLAN PCI card using the Realtek RTL8185L Chipset. I didn't get a 'quick-installation guide' in the box as promised so have tried two methods so far:

1. Put the card in the motherboard straight away, which causes the computer to fail to reach BIOS.

2. Installed drivers and program from Realtek website before installing card. However, I put card in and the same problem occurs.

When I un-installed the drivers to start anew, the computer then started to bugger up after a restart. Thankfully I've got rid of those problems with a few reboots, but I'm a bit wary about going any further without some proper advice. I've tried contacting Realtek but they're taking ages, so if anyone here can help I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried the card in another PCI slot? i've had this issue a few time on different systems and found that all was fine when i move the card to a different PCI slot.

Aye, I tried this yesterday before checking back on the forums and it worked. I was a bit stupid wasn't I? :p

I just assumed all PCI slots would perform the same function, but moving the card from the top slot to the bottom one has worked.

Thanks for the replies anyway.
