I’ve ordered a Creative 1GB MP3 player for my wife; it should arrive in a few days time.

She wants me to convert (rip) some of her CDs and transfer them to the player.

Looking at Windows Media Player it suggests that their native WMA files are superior to MP3.

This is all new to me and could someone please advise me if this is correct?

What are the advantages/disadvantages? What settings in WMP should I use?

My wife has 13 CDs (which she listens to) and if possible I’d like to be able to rip them all for her and transfer them to the player in one go.

She’s going to have a bit of a shock when I substitute David Gray with Tom Waits and Annie Lennox with Janice Joplin!

The main advantage WMA has over MP3 is the compression size, WMA uses less space per CD so you get more on your player.

With regards to sound difference I don't hear any but I'm sure there is an audiophile on here that willl dispute. ;)

Awaits flaming..
