Now im trying to wrench wmp 11 off my pc to put wmp 10 back but i have system restore off so rolling back doesnt work! what now?? :(

If you uninstall from add/remove hardware I *think* it may roll back to 10. Please wait for someone to confirm this though mate!!

it wont roll back, because i have system restore off like most the guys on here. Could all of a sudden the permissions of the mpegs been locked up or something??

im using divx and another codec pack ..erm...ACE mega codecs? heard of it. But i wasnt having problems before both have been on my pc for yonks and not caused any disruption

brand new samsung spinpoint in tow here....is that neccessary? i will run it anyway

Not neccessarily anything to do with the hdd, ram can cause corrupted data, as well as other software errors.

can you suggest a better codec pack, im just uninstalling the old one
VLC media player

Strange how it's not rolling back to wmp 10 though, as system restore is one of the first services that I disable upon a fresh xp install, yet I didn't have any probs uninstalling wmp 11 (as you can see from the pics below).

WMP 11

WMP 10 (after uninstalling wmp 11 through add/remove programs)

im not sure its corrupted data as such as the files will play with quicktime, its only mpegs affeacted too

If you go into Media Player options, then go to the Performance tab, and at the bottom under Video Acceleration there should be an Advanced button.

Click it, and try turning filters on and off. I had this problem a while back, turns out that a filter had disabled itself.

I havd this issue ages ago, and it was a problem with a registry key, but i can't remember what it was called, let me know if you still haven't sorted it, and i will boot up my old pc and look for what i changed.

My issue was with WMV files mainly.

okay well the problem is still here and i am appreciating all this help guys. Im first gonna try Tute's idean then Slyvester's and then if we are still no go, id really appreciate the help you are offering Matt-page :p
