Hi there.
I've got an irritating little problem here at the moment.
For some reason my Media Player plugin for IE has stopped working.
I haven't used it for a while, so not sure when it went wrong, and therefore what program/update may have caused the problem.
If I visit, say, the BBC News website
http://news.bbc.co.uk/
There are various (media player) video clips available, from news headlines to the weather, etc.
If I try to load a page, I see the media player plug in, it says
"Connecting to Media..." as usual
Then it just goes to "ready" and that's it!
On the BBC site, there's also the option to launch in standalone player, which loads the main WMP program, and plays it fine.
I also tried a radio station that I like to listen to.
Same thing, "Connecting to Media..." and then just "ready"
If I right click on the WMP plugin, go to properties, and copy the URL, and then paste it into Media Player, it plays perfectly.
I've disabled firewalls, made no difference.
So, the files are obviously there, and working, and media player can obviously play them, just not the plugin.
I have a feeling it was something to do with file associations.
The other day I loaded up a site with some streaming video on it, and expected WMP to play it, but Winamp popped up and played it, so I disabled the .asx association in Winamp, and then set it for media player.
Unfortunuately, no settings that I change in the plugin have any effect, I've tried disabling it, and reenabling it, rebooted the computer of course... I've no idea! It did work, now it doesn't!
I've googled about, found various people reporting the same problem, but no actual fixes that work for me thus far.
So, if anybody has any idea, please let me know.
It's not a showstopping problem. As I said, I can right click the WMP11 plugin, go to properties, and copy the URL, and paste into Media Player, and still listen to the radio station, but I'd just like to get it working properly again.
Many thanks,
Ian.
