wmpnetwk Maxing out CPU!

I've installed Windows 7 Professional from my student MSDNAA account and am having an issue with wmpnetwk.

I understand why WMP12 usage is high, because I'm importing media into the player, that's fair enough. The issue that I have though is wmpnetwk is maxing out the CPU when it can and grinding the PC to a halt.

I have ~120GB music and ~730GB of videos. I realise this will take a while to import into WMP12 so as I say, am fine with that eating the CPU.

I understand that wmpnetwk is for media sharing on the network to devices like the 360 or other media sharing enabled PCs, that's fine, but on Vista I don't have this issue at all and can share media fine.

I know I can turn it off which in theory fixes it, but that really doesn't help or matter because I want to share to my 360 over my network and it's been fine on Vista so I want to run it the same with W7 without the CPU being maxed out.

Any idea how to fix this damn issue?

Check CPU usage on PC, Media Centre/Player are both set by default to download information about content from the internet.

Both wmplayer.exe/ehshell.exe maxed core #0 for 20-30 minutes before I gave up and turned it off.

Can't remember exact location & can't check at work - I'm sure google won't mind helping though. :)

Solving someone elses woes - I'm assuming it the same issue.

Still can't remember where the setting it though - but AFAIK it was a tick box.

Found a tick box for that, it may have fixed the issue...have to wait for WMP12 to import all my music and videos now. :p

It does seem to only be WMP12 that's using the CPU now and not wmpnetwk. :)

Thanking you. :D

Hmmm...doesn't appear to have fixed it. It's still eating my CPU.

:D

Suspended the process...but I don't want to have to do that every time I am on the PC and I still want to be able to use wmpnetwk. :/

Try disabling the WMP network sharing service.

Run services.msc then find and disable it.

It's one of the first things I disabled on my Win 7 install.

All well and good, but I want to use WMP network sharing. It worked brilliantly on Vista with my 360, but now with Windows 7 I get CPU maxing out.

EDIT: I've disabled 'homegroups' and it appears to have resolved the issue...but I won't count it as resolved until I've run a few tests.

Disabled in Media Center as well as media player?

WMC
Settings -> Automatic Download Options

WMP
Right Click Top Bar -> Tools -> Options -> Library Tab

Also, remove any Libraries you aren't going to use.

Well I've only run WMP, but I shall run WMC and disable it in there too.

As I said in the edit of previous post, I've disabled 'homegroups' as I think they are stupid and pointless, I'll share normally thanks, I have crossplatform machines etc. so want crossplatform sharing, not W7 only shares.

Out of interest, any way to see what the progress is on WMP adding files to the library? In 11 you'd tell it to scan folders and it'd say 'found x files, added x files' in WMP12 it seems to just add them as soon as you say 'I have these libraries'.
