WMV -> Mpeg Conversion?

Hey all,

Does anyone have any suggestions for WMV -> MPEG conversion software (preferably free!).

I've got some video I've taken that I'd like to squish down, it's 34MB in WMV format

Have a look on download.com but video conversions a ***** to do.. usually most of the programs have a trial thing on them so it'll only do like 20% of the video.. bah

Grab MeGUI and use AVC/MP4

I thought wmv was generally smaller than mpeg anyhow?

Depends on which codecs are used in the WMV and mpeg containers.

If you go down the MeGUI route make sure you've got ffdshow tryouts and MKVExtractGUI/MKVMergeGUI.

The tools have a slight learning curve compared to other apps (i.e. you don't just open a file and click convert), but it's certainly worth it in the long run.

If you have a recent ati card you have access to the very fast and reasonable Avivo Encoder. Quite basic opperation but it will do what you want .

i use Virtualdub-Mpeg2 to convert my WMV's to avi's and its free
