Woah. Firefox's Mental Memory

OK, I know it's windows, but here is my Win2k work machine, 26 days uptime, about 70 Opera tabs open, and only 117MB used.

Right enough though, don't think flash is installed though.

It's a Dell something-or-other 2.25 Ghz P4 with 1GB of RDRAM - Nice!

I've got Firefox on Vista that's been running for 24 hours(ish) with a script reloading a few of those every 5 minutes.
Task manager claims a private working set of 91MB with 16 tabs spread across 2 windows with a whole load of extensions (adblock, firebug, web dev, etc), in a box with 2GB of RAM - it's also worth noting that Fx will use a varying cache size with the amount of RAM you've got.

Given I've got 46% free, it's hardly slowing my machine down - it's the cases where it seems to go loopy and gobble 900MB on a machine that only has 1GB that are the issue here...

Is it the same plugin version (about:config in both)?
You'd be shocked at how bad Flash can be, and the installer doesn't keep every occurrence up to date...

It certainly is in my Xubuntu install, no idea about windows as I haven't booted it in nearly 7 weeks now \o/ But I have had the problem under Linux as well.

snip..... it's the cases where it seems to go loopy and gobble 900MB on a machine that only has 1GB that are the issue here...

Heh my lappy is only running with 256MB and some of that's shared to video :D
