The SL is heading down to Kleeman for some torx so I thought it was about time it was spruced up a bit. First up were the wheels, and although I never really liked the Lorinsers they were acceptable and the better was fond of them so I booked in the wheels for a refurb. There was a bit of bubbling on the inner rim and some nicks here and there, so £300 was agreed to have them back all freshly baked with a slightly lighter metallic finish. 24 hours after dropping the car off, I get a phone call to tell me that both of the front wheels are cracked and that I better come have a look. Both wheels are corroded on the inner face and both are showing slow fracture lines. Not happy as we were told by the dealership that the wheels were less than a year old and the car had obviously had the full MB inspection.

A quick call to the sales manager doesn't get me anywhere, I've had the car ~6 months and it's not their problem etc. The service manager is a lot more interested and asks to see the wheels so the bodyshop runs them up the road to him. After a quick look, he's was very apologetic and we discuss what to do over chocolate bourbons.

I had to wait for a few days for it to go through the system and for the wheels to arrive but I'm happy with the result...AMG IV 19" splits. You'll have to excuse the pics, too cloudy and it's perched offset on an incline, hence the comedy ride height.

you said something last week about the SL being in the garage, did something go bang?

Aye, it was waiting for the wheels and I was waiting to what MB were going to contribute, 'tis all.

so were the original wheels made by MB or Lorinser? my momma is having to have four wheels refurbed on her slk, all four are badly corroded... much like a the rest of the car was tbh.

Sold and stamped by Lorinser, not sure who they use to manufacture them.

where exactly is kleeman uk ?

their website only gives reference to some mayfield garage place that have absolutely no on-line prescence whatsoever !

That is Kleeman UK, if you are referring to SKG Performance. They sent me a link to the new 09 catalogue, don't think it's available from their site, if you are interested. Prices are ok, there is definitely some room to manoeuvre though.

I want your job Fett, whatever it is!

What is it? :p

Not terribly exciting. I don't mean to be rude or secretive but I don't think it's particulary relevant :)

How are you getting along with the GTR?

Much nicer wheels on the Merc

Cheers. I'll write something up shortly about the GT-R, I'm extremely pleased with it though so far.

Ultimately i should have rung them up, but i dont want to take up peoples valuable time on the phone with my dreaming. Incidentally, what do they quote for the C63 tuning. Believe a remap and a set of unrestricted headers unleashes 560 bhp + as the C63 is just a restricted E63 engine that has 520hp stock.

Couldn't tell you, sorry, I've only had the numbers for the 55, I would not have thought there would be a massive price difference though. The catalogue has no prices, like the site.

Probably would have helped you if I had actually given some prices (I only requested what I was interested in so no brake prices etc... but should give you a ballpark figure):

K1, £ 2,692.00 Pulley upgrade, ECU re-programming & sports air-filters. (bhp 550 / 750nm)

K2, £ 4,595.00 K1 + SS tubular headers and de-cat downpipes. (bhp 570 / 780nm)

K3, £ 6,545.00 K2 + Super sport camshafts.(bhp 600 / 835nm)

K4, £ 8,695.00 K3 + larger throttle body. (bhp 620 / 900nm)

All inc VAT and fitting

Limited Slip Diff (60%) £ 1,295.00 + VAT.

EBL (electronic lowering module) £ 1,145.00 + VAT.

Alternatively, call them and ask for Steen.

As for OP, looks excellent. Was always a fan of the F1 alloys. What are you getting done from Kleemann? If you are getting the exhaust done you will have to let us know how it sounds.

K4 and the LSD. EBL from MEC Design.

As far as exhaust, it seems AMG got it spot on with flow so it's just for the sound, I'm heavily leaning towards Eisenmann right now.

(rev-limited 4k rpm)

you had a look at brabus?

do MB limit all their [petrol] engines to 4k at a standstil?
our old C did it, didn't expect them to do it on an SL tho :/

Aye, looked at Brabus, Carlsson, Renntech etc. I like what Kleeman can offer and their reputation.

Stationary rev limit is not just MB. Not sure why you would want to exceed 4k with no load so it's a bit of a non-issue, well for me anyway.
