So, i woke up today all happy and cheery as its my birthday to find that £700 has been taken out of my paypal account.

I called the bank and they said they cant do anything until it comes up on my statement :S

Filed unauthorised transaction claim on paypal and also called them and they said it will take 10 days to investigate, but the guy on the phone said it should take less time, more like 72hours.

I am panicking! HELPPP

i didn't have £700 in my account, my debit card was linked to the paypal account. Ye i have changed all my passwords etc...

just have to wait now :(

shall i just sit and wait now? or would you guys suggest anything else i can do?

anyone had similar experiences?

what a great birthday

ONE MILLION TRILLION TIMES THIS!

I use this now for PayPal and I've had no issues. I had £1,000 or so taken from me before! They tested it first with 10p here and 10p there. The bank can't do anything really apart from cancel your card. A PayPal dispute will have to take place.

ye i will get this for sure once this issue is resolved, i can't believe this happened

thanks all for birthday wishes, anyway, just want to get this sorted asap as i need the money to book my plane tickets for holiday next month :|

so i called the guy, seemed nice. i told him what happened and told him i have contacted paypal regarding this. He said he rejects payments he is not expecting or something like that. But ye, i have made him aware of the situation now too. Hopefully it helps.

thanks for the help guys, i panicked and removed the bank card from the paypal account. But then thought, how will paypal refund me now :S ? shall i add the card back? or will they still be able to refund my card?

Got an email today from Paypal:

'We've finished reviewing your unauthorised activity claim and you'll
receive a refund for the transaction amount. It may take up to five working
days for the funds to appear in your account.'

Just need to wait for my money to get back into my account now..

I want to thank all of you guys for all your help and suggestions, love OCUK!

PS. I will let you guys know when the money arrives in my account just so other people in this situation can use this info.

i think it was some virus on my pc, i did a check with Kaspersky and got no threats.

So i then download Microsoft Security Essentials and got 4 threats, 2 of which were medium threat and the other 2 being High threats. The high threat ones were called 'Exploit:HTML/IframeRef.Z' and 'Exploit:Java/CVE-2012-0507.CA'.

I am not sure if this was the actual cause tho, but it must have been because there is no way someone would have guessed my password! its $"! numbers, lower case and upper case letters...

not reused anywhere, its completely different to any other passwords i have. I plan on closing my paypal account after this anyway since i never really use it anyways.

I will reinstall windows too since i am going to get a SSD with my recovered money lol

hey guys, just an update.

My bank account has now been credited with the refund.

Guess paypal was good in terms of service on this particular situation. My paypal account is now limited, but since i don't use it anymore anyway, i am just going to leave it like that.

All in all it took 3 days from contacting paypal to get my money back.

Thanks all!
