so basically the 7200 is almost half the price of the 8500.

they both run at 9.5X multi but it has half the L2 @ only 3MB.

is this worth getting?

trying to build a pc for my friend and i doubt i can fit in a Q6600.

if its not worth it, what else is best for gaming at 80-90 pounds

thanks in advance!

My opinion - get an E2160 and spend the savings on something else (graphics, sound, RAM). Double the money for an E7200 just isn't worth it.

Either that or stretch to a Q6600.

what are you likely to overclock a e2160 to? 3.2ghz with an artic 7 cooler?

Would you need a p35 mobo or is a p31 sufficient? with 800mhz ram?

Care to explain a tad more p4radox as im interested in upgrading this month :D

The E7200 is a great CPU for £80, miles ahead of anything at that price, a lot faster than an E2xxx but wether you think its worth the extra £30-40 is up to you.

my e2180 got to 3.4ghz stable but some can go higher still. ive read reviews of the e2140 going to 3.4 aswell so that gives you some idea lighter.

on air mind you with TRUE and scythe 1600 rpm fan limited to 1100 rpm. not bad at all :-)

I got a E2180 to 3.6Ghz 24hours prime stable on a Gigabyte P31 DS3L with DDR675 and then DDR800 ram. That was with a crappy cooler too!! For a little more than the price of a E7200 you get a decent cpu and mobo. Bargain!! The P31 DS3L is a cracking little mobo with more overclocking options than you might think for the price. Full speed pci-e 16x slot too.

You can spend the saving on a better graphics card then.

It might do. My E2160 was at 3.0ghz and was bottlenecking my GTS. I got a really good boost going to the E7200 at 3.8ghz and would say it was money well spent.

If you do anything that supports the SSE4 threading, the difference is huge! Video encoding takes almost half the time.

Don't spend the money if you're not going to utilise these things though.
