Wolfdale e8200, e8400 and e8500 available for Pre-Order!

To be honest, another £60 for another .5x on the multi multi is a joke... That's flagships for ya, though. Still, I doubt anyone overclocking will be disappointed by any of these chips.

do you need ddr3 for these ? would they work in a p5b deluxe wifi? are they going to overclock well ?

Yes they do support the 45nm duals and quads. But you'll need the latest BIOS 1226.

They overclock VERY well that your mobo will most likely limit the overclock unless it's capable of 500Mhz FSB+.

hmm tempted, as im seeing very little real world difference with this q6600 @ 3ghz compared too a e6400 at 3ghz and i have an opportunity to get rid of the board and cpu if i want..

seen that arcticle decided on the 8500 other than the quad did not want to wait soI have Pre ordered the cpu "CMON MONDAY NEXT WEEK" :-)
the Motherboard Iam getting is the same as that acticle although the bios they use is also the latest ASUS have ... any better motherboards ?

Would love to try out an E8200. However the likeliness of DFI releasing a BIOS update for the ICFX3200 is so low it really isn't going to happen. I suppose if I can't be bothered to swap out the board I guess I'll be holding out till the end of the year, which is basically Nehalem time anyway.

Shall be interesting to see how well retail batches do.

I guess you pay for silicon quality as all 200s,400s,500s are the same chip?

If 8500 can hit 5Ghz+ on standard water loops it will be a winner!

Better than quads as far as gaming is concerned :)

ahh excellent:

E8200 8X
E8400 9X
E8500 9.5X

didn't know they would be using half multi's. guess that i would need quicker than 800mhz ram if i opt for the 8x multi cpu to get some good clockage.

I can’t see many people going for the E8500 unless it has superior silicon. But then again it’s pot luck when it comes to overclocking. The E8400 seems to overclock very well 5.4GHz on dry ice well I know not many people are going to be doing that. It should do 4 - 4.5Ghz easy on a good water setup. Can’t wait until more people have got these chips I want to see a safe clock on air cooling hehe.

I did guess £120-£130, so close enough, that's as much as I'll pay for one (E8400). Will see if the "Pre Order" prices shift on release day ;)
