Wolfdale e8200, e8400 and e8500 available for Pre-Order!

What the hell was I talking about just fired up at 3.6Ghz 1.184v (anything lower wouldn't get me into windows)

Testing for an hour or so (is all I can do tnite)

Back up to my old speed anyway on a stupidly low voltage

Things are looking good.

I expect a few people will be running these with passive cooling of some sort in the near future due to the low voltage and low heat output.

They might have a low thermal output at stock with default vcore, but up the volts and the FSB and they generate a boatload of heat.

That pathetic joke that masquerades as a heatsink they are shipped with, is best thrown in the bin.

This was a question I was going to post. Has anyone tried passive cooling these 45nm beasts? Each PC I upgrade gets quieter and quieter as I seem to have less of a tolerence for noise these days!!! :D

No but you could easily run one with a small overclock with passive. Easily from what I've seen.

The new Celerons (65nm) have the same heatsink and run extremely cool. The fan only spins on load and will sit there idle when sat in Windows.

I really do hope temps are wrong...only ran for a minute set to 1.537v in bios

even at stock i 'm sitting at 40c as soon as i'm into windows.. i've also reseated twice.

With ultra extreme btw.
