Soooo...

Xmas coming up and having 5 kids is expensive. So i sold my RTX 3060 and 3440 x 1440 monitor to go towards kids xmas stuff.

Went back to my backup RX470, nicked my 27 inch 1080 p monitor back off my son ( after getting him a decent TV to used instead ).

I only play fortnite so really the RX470 does ok at 1080p at high settings, getting around 70FPS.

Typically after getting rid of my stuff ive won £800 on the hotpicks. im perfectly happy to drop the lot on a card but i really dont thibk im getting value from it. Been looking at anything from the RX6600 @ £450 to the 3060Ti @ £750. At 1080p i really dont think the 3060Ti is £300 better than the RX6600.

2060 @ £529 might be a better bet. Or maybe look for a used 1080Ti or 2070 / 2080

What would you do?

Unless you can get an FE card I'd be really loath to drop money right now. 3060ti is a pretty solid card at 1080p with some future leg room but it just isn't worth £750.

As above, aside from the possibility of a founders edition card, I wouldn't consider spending anything on graphics cards right now.

I think the RX470 supports FSR so you can probably use that to boost performance a bit. Stick with the original plan, if you were that hard up you needed to sell kit to pay for Christmas then I would keep the £800 for a rainy day. 5 kids will remain expensive and apparently Xmas is scheduled for next year as well. Be a bit pointless buying a 3060Ti and then being in the same boat in a year's time.

Or maybe look for a used 1080Ti or 2070 / 2080

If you go this root I would suggest pushing towards an RTX card as tech/feature support is shifting that way albeit slowly and at 1080p probably the extra VRAM won't be a huge consideration.

I would put that money towards a decent HDR display & stream demanding games on GFN instead (heck I see a 48" oled go for exactly £800 atm). The visual difference from a better screen will be many times greater than whatever a better GPU can offer. And by the time you've saved up some money for a new GPU we might even have a more normal market, so that a 3060 Ti performing card is only £400 (or less) instead of £750+.

If you had to sell your graphics card and monitor to fund your kids Xmas stuff - I'd put it in the bank. Last thing you need is to be down to 0 again.

i'd echo the above sentiments, put the money away for a rainy day. a new gpu should be pretty low priority if you've already had to punt on your existing gpu and monitor. the 470 will do you perfectly well for quite a while yet, especially if you're only playing fortnite.

If £800 was all I had to survive with 5 kids then I would put it in the bank for emergencies like boiler breakdown, burst pipe, car repairs etc.

It's off topic but the OP asked what we would do and that's what I'd do.

As previously said. Unless you can score an FE -

It'd be a PS5/series X/S from shop or MM for the family. Maybe towards a family holiday in the UK next year?

Used cards - expensive and no warranty. £529 for a 2060!? Hell no.

If it has to be a gfx card. Put money in bank, get on telegram alerts and wait to score n FE. Bit of luck involved but not impossible. You seem lucky anyway ;)
