Ive came across an old pc that id forgot about, and wouldnt mind using it for media stuff, however...

I plugged a monitor into it this morning and got no display when i turned it on. The pc is an old mini atx thing, there is ram in it, and the processor is a celeron. everything seems in order with nothing missing.

Is there any reason it wouldnt display anything at all?

maybe the hard drive is wiped, i dunno, there is a speaker in i think, and no beeping.

Will a pc boot up properly with just the monitor plugged in?

Thanks

I don't know if it's true for all PCs, but mine will not boot if there is no keyboard present, but I get an output on a display from the first few checks and a message saying no keyboard found.

Hi, Sorry to hijack this thread but I too have the smae problem! when I power up the pc I get the cpu fan spinning up, but no activity from the hd or vga no bios screen. I have cleared the cmos but cannot think where to go next, its a sppare from work i gave to my mother with a athlon xp chip and 128mb of ram.

It was working last week but upon rebooting one day it just stoped booting, although my mum could have by accident gone into bios by mistake, would this damage anything though?

right ill try the keyboard thing later thanks.

i dont think its that though, when it turns on the hd ticks a little, then it just goes silent, and only the fans run.

would be nice if i could get it running. Not even a bios screen loads :(

could be dust settled in the ram slots, try taking the ram out, blowing and reseating them.

could be similiar problem with graphics card. i doubt the hard drive has anything to do with it, for the time being unplug the cd drive and hard drive.

Could try replacing the graphics card
