Hi
Just moved to windows 7 and find my fave free kerio (sunbelt) firewall is not compatible with win7 64..........bummer.
Can anyone recommend similar, with in\out control.and idiot proof?
thanks

I've heard of that comodo in the past, my bro sweares by it but i have never used it, personally windows 7 is pretty awesome using it's own security is enough

If you want to be that granular about what programs can talk to the internet then Windows Firewalls advanced functions (cant remember if there is an MS marketing term for them) will allow you to whitelist programs but personally I cant think of anything more tedious!

Just turn on Windows Firewall and UAC so a program wont be able to change its settings.

Is there really much point though? If something malicious wants to get to the internet it will do.
Yes - if said Malware was a keylogger, for example, then it would need my permission to pass through my firewall. Alerting me to the fact that xyz.exe wants to transmit my passwords. ;)

Has helped me catch malware before, but it's extremely rare anything dodgy ends up being installed in the first place.

But still - preventing is better than curing. :p

The malware could just inject into your web browser though which as a high-probability of being whitelisted and transmit over http leaving you non the wiser :p

Fair enough though it might help in some cases with weaker malware, as JB said though sounds like a lot of effort and time for little gain imo. Time could be better spent focusing on how you get malware on the internal network in the first place and fixing that.
