Won't boot up with new RAM, nor with original now either

Hi guys

Completed a new build somewhat recently and had a pair of 4GB Corsair Vengeance 1866Mhz RAM sticks, everything working perfectly. I agreed to swap my RAM with someone else for the Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 (brand new from OcUK).
Installing them in the same slots the PC failed to boot and the memOK LED light came on, it automatically rebooted and still nothing. The LED activity lights of the first RAM stick were flashing but they weren't on the second (only had the underneath LEDs lit) - if that info is of any use.
So I placed just one stick of the RAM in but to no avail. I then tried to reinstall one of the Corsair RAM sticks and got the same issue. Placed both in, again the same issue. I'm really confused, if there was an issue with the Crucial RAM then fair enough but I don't understand why replacing it with the original RAM which worked only a few moments ago now reports an issue.
I have tried pressing the memOK button with the Corsair's both in and it still failed to boot, so I'm sort of at a loss as to where I go from here or what the issue is.

Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

Tried clearing the CMOS after you changed it? Might've been stuck on the old Corsair XMP profile, then got confused with the Crucial.

I've tried erasing the "CMOS RTC RAM data" by moving jumper caps as described in my Asus manual, though unfortunately that had no effect.

Other than removing the CMOS battery (a pain because of the "thermal armour"), are there any other options for me to explore? Stuck with a non-functioning PC while this remains the case.

This happened to me recently. Swopped out 4Gb Patriot for 8Gb Corsair. Somewhere in the swopping process something went wrong. Tried all the sticks separately in all the slots and nothing.

I was getting BIOS memory error beeps though.

Motherboard had blown. :(

OK so unseating the motherboard battery and replacing it after a few seconds has resulted in the same issue both for the new and original RAM.
I don't know where to go from here because I don't know what's at fault, do I contact the supplier of the new RAM or the motherboard (both OcUK), or the supplier of the original RAM (another company) or do I contact technical support of Crucial, Corsair or Asus?

you need to leave mb battery out for longer, even overnight if needed, sometimes it needs that long to fully clear

also when mb powered down turn off at the wall and hold the front panel power switch in to discharge all the caps/mb of power ect

then try

best to always hold in power switch and discharge mb when swapping out components cos the mb still stores power even when switched off

when you do this youll see the cpu fan and mb lights flash/spin for 2-3secs then go out, then you know its safe to swap stuff

Booted it back up this afternoon after leaving the battery up, using just one of the Crucial RAM sticks and it booted up without any issues. Placed the second one in (the one which never lit up properly from the beginning) and the MemOK! LED light came back up so I'm guessing that on top of the motherboard being confused by the switching of the RAM (which would explain why the Corsair RAM was rejected as well), I have one faulty stick of RAM. I've not tried switching the "bad" RAM in on its own as I'm concerned I may cause more issues, and I'd rather it continue working...
So I've contacted OcUK to request instructions on an RMA... I'm grateful to at least have 4GB of RAM working so I can use the PC lol.
Thanks again for your help wazza300.

Just to add a quick question into the mix. Does it matter whether I have my RAM (when I have both sticks installed) in slot 1 and 3 as opposed to slot 2 and 4? Mine seemed to work fine in slots 1 and 3 when I had the Corsair's in there but I've read elsewhere that with Sandybridge it is best to utilise 2 and 4, and even slot 2 if only using one RAM stick.
Can anyone corroborate that?

glad it worked for you,and yeah it seems like you have one faulty/dead ram module, just remember to rma the complete kit for a new kit
