Are you overclocking, if so try the stock settings and see if that loads. Otherwise you may have a corrupted installation, boot from the windows CD and try a repair.
1) try last known good
2) boot from an erd type disk and do a system restore (sysinternals erd commander is good if anyone you know has a copy)
3) put disk in another system, chkdsk see if it fix's anything if not copy a recent set of registry files from the restore folder to the config folder
4) reinstall trying to repair the old install or jsut do a clean install
