wont load on startup somtimes

sometimes on my pc when i boot it up it will not load the windows bar and just sorta stop doing things, the mouse can still move but no action is doable. this sometimes fixes itself after awhile but normally just reset it if it happens.
it use to do it allot when running xp but after reformatting and putting on windows7 it very rairly dose it but can happen every now and again.
i think it might be my hd failing, the pc is about 2years old now and has gone threw a lot of abuse.
it is currently not overclocked (was at 3.4 on a 5600 duo cup) because it heats up my room to much lol.

what could be causing this and how do i confirm what part of my pc is failing?

That post is very hard to read through. Anyway, it could be a thrashing or failing HDD as you suggest.

The first thing you can try, if you can get into windows at some point, is to run HDTUNE and run a full health and error scan.

If that comes back with errors then a failing HDD would appear to be the problem. If no errors are reported then post back.

from what I understand it can only be the HD that's failing.

You said about reformatting. How often have you done this. I've never had to reformat a drive due to a problem, only on the odd occasion to different pc's for non essential repair.

hmmmm strange, could be drive failure. Any ticking noises from the drive like it's trying to read a section over and over again?

It sounds very much like drive failure.

Id try a different SATA or IDE cable and motherboard connector first though just on the off chance it's one of those.
