wont start!!!!!

ok fixing my friends computer, I've replace motherboard as it was dead no reaction to beeps just fans spinning. Now with new mptherboard i get the beeps 1 long and 2 short, thought it was the ram, replaced that with new ram but no luck, replace cpu from another pc i know is working, basicly i tried and tested all components from that computer. And bought another motherboards just incase its a faulty still the same im running out of options

what mobo is it? if u go to manufacturers support site there should be a bit which tells you what the beeps mean

yup change psu, spec are as followed : P4 (dont know what speed as computer wont boot at all) 775
Asus p5kpl-cm (replace 2 new motherboards)
1 gig of corsair
400w ez-cool
500 gig sata
samsung dvd-rw

667 mhz, well i thought it could be a compatability issue but on asus site its supported so im stumted.

Yeah, most problems with that beep code appear to be memory related, usually memory not on the QVL.

it is 1 stick

someone had similar problem with this P5KPL-CM board, im going to order a 800mhz stick see if i can atlease get the bios

The beep codes can differ depending on the BIOS manufacturer but 1 long 2 short indicates video problem?....

I think with this board you can use either DIMM socket to run a single stick of RAM.

Have you tried using the other slot to run the RAM in?

Have you checked the voltage going to RAM? I'm guessing it's standard 1.8v but check what the manufacturer recommends and also the setting in the BIOS to ensure it's set ok and everything auto SPD so you use the factory set timings...

AMI based bios report the 1 long 2 short as memory or graphics failure.
tried both slots and i cant get to bios to change setting.
but wierd thing is that i removed the cpu and turned on to see if the hard drive will kick start itself which it did, but it didnt when cpu was in the mobo
