won't turn on

ok new development. Managed to connect another PSU to motherboard but only the 24 pin connector, the other connector is 4 and not 8 like on the new board. So not sure if i should connect that or not. This time CPU fan comes on. I get another green led near 24connector plus the code changes fom 8.2. to 8.1.

Does this mean i've got a dodge PSU?
 
Can you try the opposite ? connect your new PSU to your current system.

I would then not just wait till it boots, (if it does) I would try to strain the system.

Do any of your friends have good PSU's to try on the board ?

8.1 I am pretty sure comes *before* 8.2. It means "start power sequence" because the other 8pin connector isn't present.

Just noticed my 24 connector on my very old machine it actually only 20, so i can't try my new PSU on that system. Not sure about the one i am using now. (Yes there is 3 systems. new, old and very old). Guess i could check. give us 5 mins.

Naa.. your posts have given me things to try.. thanks for help. Goinig to look at connector on this system. brb
 
You may be able to disconect the spare 4 pins on the 24 pin connector, or have them overhang. I have done similar on a friends PSU when he was trying to plug it in to an asrock motherboard.
 
I am on VERY old system now. lol... Have plugged 24 connector only from brand new system into old system. Green light comes on but nothing else when power switch is pressed. Got to be the psu. right?

Is starting to look like that.

I would personally start to think of a person with a modern PC and test it at their house. But I am 99 percent sure from what you have said and the error codes the PSU is dead as a dodo.
 
managed to connect PSU from old system onto new one, (cable was a bit short so had to balance things carefully). Same as i got from very old PSU. CPU fan comes on, i get green light and a red light on motherboard + a blue light on outside of case near power switch.
The code i get is 8.7. which is "Check CPU core voltage". probably cus i can't connect 8 pin because its only 4 pin on old system.

Guess its the PSU. Easy to change than motherboard at least. :=)
 
Yep bought it from OcUK.

I don't have much luck with new puters. Pre - built or building myself.

hopefully i'll get it working tomorrow.

Probably need help on 1st boot and such.

ok call me stupid but sorted problem out. Wrong cable in Video card. U live and learn i suppose. Would never have thought have that. Everything else was right so not too bad on first build attempt.

Cool at least you all sorted now , feels good to use the pc knowing that you assembled it :D
 
Yep could have been worse. Thanks again for help. All up and working now. No crashes so far. All for around £650, save of around £200. Start saving for the next one now.. :=)
