Hey, Just bought new components to puter and put them all together.. 1st time ever.. yay for me.

Problem is, it doesn't turn on.. boo for me.

Got a red light on the motherboard near the main power in, plus a digital read out says 01 then changes to 82.

I know its long shot.. but any idea where i've gone wrong?

No fans come on either. Do i plug them directlty to the PSU? or into the board some where?

got a Abit IP35-Pro Intel P35 and artic 900 case

First things first:

Is the CPU fan plugged in to the motherboard directly, and is the 4 or 8 pin power cable also plugged in to the motherboard from the PSU as well as the 24 pin one ?

I have done a google image search of your board.

It appears to be an 8 pin in this particular board. It is located between the CPU and the Keyboard / mouse port on the back. It seems to have a Heatsink to the side of it.

Assuming it is the right board I google :p

ok plugged that in... just not sure on fans on case. Do i plug them directly into PSU? or into motherboard somewhere. Can't seen any big enough connectors. Plenty of smaller ones though.

For the fan that connects to the CPU, then that goes to the motherboard.

Generally all other fans in my experience plug in to the connectors from the PSU.

They don't take much power in general, so don't feel bad if you have to share a connector with a hard drive or something.

Assuming the fans have the same kind of connector as the one to plug in your DVD rom. (the 4 pin ones that come out of your PSU).

ok plugged in 8 pin connector.. and the fans go directly to PSU via lead, But still no show.. red LED just when i turn on at back and plus 01 at Green LED which changes to 8.2. when i press the Power button pn Case.

and thats about it.

check that you have all the PWR SW, RESET SW etc. on the right pins or that there connected? :D

have you got a decent camera, you could possibly try to post some pics up close of the motherboard etc.

*EDIT*

oh does the computer actually power up when you press the power button, as in do the fans start going etc?

I would personally try a barebones run.

Unplug the Drives (hard drives and the DVD ones) from both the PSU and the board.

Leave all fans other than the CPU one unplugged.

Leave just the Video card, 1 stick of ram in and of course the CPU.

See what happens then, then if that don't work swap the ram sticks. You could also try clearing the CMOS before trying all of that just to be certain.

If you have a spare stick of ram / Video card / PSU that would be good too.

button wiring is right. but still nothing... got my camera phone but it aint a good one... apart from starting again don't know what to do..

stressed now.. lol

ok
nothing attached apart from cpu, 1 stick of ram and video card. nothin.. swopped ram over and still nothing.

looked up 8.2. something to do with enable ATX power supply, whateer that means.

Yeah - I did some googling on your behalf.

For what I read it could be a problem with the PSU - maybe incompatible or possibly faulty.

Have you access to a spare one to try it with ?

i've got the one i'm using now.. an old athlon 3800 on ABN sli se board.

I just asked at OC for everything i needed and they gave me stuff... LoL...

Thought everything went too smoothly when putting things together..

well try the PSU from your OLD pc see if that works, if not then it's the board because you know this supply works.

out of interest what PSU are you using? as in your new one?

its a corsair HX520w modular power supply.

Got Q6600 processor with before mentioned motherboard, graphics card is 8800 gt 512

ok pulled all power out of motherboard and put them back in again. Same with Ram. Nothing

Only that that has changed is that I now have CC on green LED instead of 8.2.

Whatever that means.

Looks like i'll have to wait till monday for OC to open.

pffff

only things i can think of that you could try now are:

~reseating the CPU, might not be seated correctly

~try your other PSU to see if its the PSU playing up

~make sure all connections (including CMOS jumpers etc) are secure

will have a think and see if theres anything else were missing, other than that its pretty much gonna be the MOBO if the PSU is fine and the CPU is seated correctly. ;)

EDIT
just had a look for that CC code and i believe it relates to the CMOS jumper so take a look and make sure its secure and on the correct pins.
