got two of these from the intel rep @ work today eng samples but we're using them in a sample storage server we're building
will try and get some super pi benchies etc posted up and a bit of oclocking to see *** they can get to :D
running it on tyan mobo tho so not sure if theres much scope
will post piccies of the server tomorrow
asked about quad core chips and he reckons he wont get his hands on some for quite a while yet :(

fired the system up today after a **** up with the raid cards, apparently intels idea of multilane cabling is very different from the iso std
my partner in crime is running spec int benchies over the weekend and after thats done i'll get a chance to get some super pi and sisoft benchies done :D
expect results mid week followed by some juicy pics of the system in action :D

I seen on another website a load of benchmarks with woodcrest v opteron, and it seemed to be about 60/40, with woodcrest showing the advantage (but only just) in the performance tests. Some tests favouring woodcrest and some opteron. For webservers apache definetely favoured the opteron and quite easily beat the woodcrest chips.

If i can find the website again i will post it. It definetely didnt seem to be the same kind of performance differences that A64vConroe had shown.

we build a lot of stuff for a certain organisation in geneva they're not too keen on amd stuff due to there custom linux builds which is why we primarilly use intel chips :)

why is that? them not being keen on AMD chips that is?

what are the main differences between conroe and woodcrest - is it just higher numbers of cores?

I thought it was the 4Mb cache on chip but I see OCUK have higher conroe chips with 4mb cache

woodcrest has 1333 bus so technically its like a conroe extreme edtion that aint even out yet, but bad thing is it requires FBdimms wich run hot and cost a bit.

the X6800 (which is EE also) is being listed as on pre-order by OCUK with only a 1066mhz bus, are they wrong or is there another model higher than this?

(Too rich for my blood either way but just interested is all)

I think Gibbo said there's another model coming out later this year with 1333MHz bus labelled the X6900.

right folks its taken a while to get time to install an xp setup and get some benchies done but this is the basic out of the box results, bios is ES and limited options but we hope to get a proper production bios with overclocking facilities shortly

box details (we now have 10 of these!!)

FBDimm was required, i got it wrong and was looking at another mobo doh!

the processors in sittue

and finally the results.......

now i think these are pretty good for out the box but im sure with some clocking i can get down to 10 seconds or less

look how low the fsb is

the memory options are amazing, u can have a mirrored set on the ram as well as buffering it!!!!

hope u guys like, will be getting sisoft marks done on monday and if u have any requests throw them my way as this box will be benched and clocked to destruction!!!!

Wow that looks great

I wouldnt personally say 1333MHz is a slow bus myself ( as this is the real value even though its quad pumped 333MHz as stated CPU-z)
