Just ordered a new 15inch MacBook pro :cool:

it's my fourth mac since my first PowerBook 8 years ago. Really looking forward to the speed bump over my current 2007 17 inch MacBook which is getting on a bit now.

I went for the basic spec high res screen on the 2ghz model as i figured I can upgrade RAm and hhd as and when, but I have just been checking prices for RAM and I didnt realise how cheap 8gb these days is so I think I shall be ordering some in the next couple of days

I got my first Mac two weeks ago. Got the base spec 13" with 8GB Ram and the 500GB HDD. Great little machine.

Yea, ram is doing some silly prices at the monet, good tome to buy, also might be worth cehcking out the very good special OCUK are doing on SSD drives right now if you have some spare cash, would make OSX obsenely fast!

Which RAM would you guys recommend if I wanted to upgrade from the standard 4gb. I dont want to pay Apple $AUD 240 for the privilege!

I went with a Kingsinton kit when I had mine, had no problems with it and at the time was jsut slightly cheaper than the Crucial.

Macs work very differently tho, so you will be very very surprised how far 4GB of ram on OSX will carry you, had no problems doing HD video editing (albeit about 4 mins vids) with CS5 etc being used.

I have a 64gb ssd and I may well fit that and remove the optical drive and use the 500gb drive for data. Generally I dont have that many apps installed so 64gb should be enough for a while.
In the past I have used crucial- not for any special reason - it just seems to work. One thing i am looking forward is a lighter machine than my current 17 inch model, which is going to be gracefully retired.
