hi all

this can probably solved easily if you know what your doing! :(

im typing up a document in word 2002 and everytime i go to center, bold, underline etc etc it applies it to the whole document. Then when i ctrl-z, it reverses it and does what i wanted in the first place.

its turning my work into a right old kurffufle. im asuming that its just some setting. i had a look and to be honest theres so many options i didnt wanna make the problem any worse. :o

any help much appreciated.

cheers.

Did you highlight the text that you wanted centering, bolding?

I've seen this in Word 2003 occasionally, and can't explain why it happens. Seems to be more common when you're working with tables though. I've also noticed that even though the undo operation causes it to *look* like it's done what you originally wanted, it causes the size of the document to increase.

Are you using the same style all the way? i.e. is it applying the change to styles all the way through the doc?

ive tried creating a new user account and i still have the same problem! :(

and yes when i change the style it does change the style of the whole document!

There's probably something in the style options, I don't have 2002 to hand but I would imagine when you modify the style it modifies the style all the way through then when you undo it, it realises you didn't want to modify the whole style if that makes sense. I'm sure there will be an option for it...

copied text to notepad.....save as html (unicode)......open that html in wordpad .... save that as a doc.... open in word and voila problem solved.... go figure!!!!!! lol thanks

Never heard of this happening and xyphic are you sure it's increasing and not just zooming?
It's actually the file size that increases. I had a ~50 page document that came to around 2 Mb, then this weird styling behaviour started and after a while it had grown to over 80 Mb. Copied and pasted into a new document and it shrank back down to the original size.

I suspect it's simply a bug that either Microsoft don't know about or don't consider a high priority to fix. It's a nuisance but the copy / paste thing usually fixes it.
