Word 2003 page numbering problem

hi, i'm trying to number the pages in my report such that:
1) the table of summery and table of contents are numbered: i, ii, iii, etc
2) main body is numbered: 1, 2, 3, etc
3) appendix is numbered: I, II, III, etc

but i have have tried what it says in the help but it don't seem to do it...I'm probably doing something stupid, can some1 please help me.

Go to the first page and go, insert -> page numbers and make it number i, ii, iii

Now go to the first page of the main body, insert -> break -> next page
Insert -> page numbers and now make it number 1,2,3,. You might have to tell it to go back to 1 again, click the format button on the page numbers screen and change where they start.

Repeat process for the last section.

woohoo, got it to work...i swear that i did exactly that last time! must have done something the wrong way round or something lol.
