Word whenever I start it up gives me this:

82106358sq5.png

I've tried taking the tick out and leaving it in - sending and not sending, it will fail on first try then next time give me the option for Safe Mode, say yes to Safe Mode it loads (in safe mode) and if no then it fails to load.

I've tried it on a different profile on the same PC - I've tried my profile on another PC, tied reinstalling - but not uninstalled - I'd rather not... as this networks has many different types of office and its not listed which is which :(

Any ideas on how to get Word to lose the association with this word file so I can start it up?

It's possibly your normal.dot template file. Do a search for this file and delete it and Word will re-create the file next time it loads.

edit: Just re-read your post, if you've already tried another users profile, then my tip probably won't help.

Searched C drive, nothing there called "normal.dot" so I deleted all "normal.XXX" files in Office Dir and for "XXX.dot" files.

edit, ah ok ta.

If Word loads ok in safe mode, then it could be one of the add-ins which is crashing Word. Load Word in safe mode then in the Tools menu look for an option called "add-ins" and disable any add-ins you find installed.

I know i'm probably trying to teach you to suck eggs, but have you tried the repair function from add/remove programmes?

what happens if you open up a file instead of jsut opening word on its own.

Thats using a Shortcut, main .exe and opening a word file.

Reinstall Office 2k3 SP2? If you have a corrupted file in there somewhere this may repair it.

Won't let me as SP3 is ontop - I unistalled it, reinstalled - still the same issue. One of those things thats only solved by format :(

Fix:

Goto -> C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\OFFICE\DATA

Clear folder.

This is where Dappy's suggestion can also work, just deleting the file that Word loads from, if you have a lot of settings and you delete you will lose them.

Edit* - Came back, Run: winword.exe /a - if it starts then its a registry or template corruption - I got mine up went to options, and changed the location of all the folders word uses to store files - so Startup is not Startup2 etc. So if made new files and now works.
